When this book came up for the chance to review it I jumped at it as my daughter (5 yrs) loves these books, when we received it turns out the 4 books that come as one she already owns (so book will be passed onto someone else, not before we read it again though). My daughter has every book in the series and thinks they are great, she is just learning to read as well and tries to read it to me or her little brother.
The super sweet stories consists of 4 books that are out in singles "Puppy trouble, the big sleepover, pony problem and cool kitties". Having all 4 books in one makes it easier to carry about and easier to find space in the bookcase. As much as I like the idea of 4 books in 1 my daughter isnt a fan she likes them as singles as she says "it makes her have more books" so we will go with that. There are 5 chapters in each book/story and they are easy reads, and relate to things that will be happening around the children or in real life at some point.
The two sisters in the story share a lot of things they same and enjoy each others company, they help each other out to get things and make each other feel good. You could prob say they are best friends, in that sister kinda way. Their are still pictures in these books that relate to what is going on in the story.
If you have a little reader in your life and they are just getting into longer books, longer than picture books then this would be the prefect gift 4 books in one, there is another 4 books in one with the other 4 stories and then a xmas one which is single. Great buy if you ask me. This is $19 for 4 books and the singles are normally between $7-$10 each so its a bargain deal.
Finished up reading this book the other night. We love Ella and Olivia in our house. I would not say that my daughter is a real girlie girl. But she does enjoy these books. The girls are sisters, and they share a lot of interests with each other. My daughter, though she doesn't share all the same interest with Ella and Olivia, can relate to them and their family life.
I find that the parents in these books are really down to earth and say things I would say, as well as think things I would think. This book is a selection of 4 of the books bound together. For us, there were two we hadn't read in this collection. These are a quick read, of 5 chapters per book. If you have time-issues a chapter is going to take you about the same as a picture book to read. If you are like me, you'll get into the story a bit and before you know it you have spent 30 minutes reading aloud.
The sentences are short and use simple words for the new reader. So far the author has 9 books out, and if you were to buy this collection and the other 4 book collection, you would be almost there. I think this would be a fantastic Christmas present for any new reader. Especially as we come up to summer holidays when children can get out of practice for reading. They would be a challenge for some, but there's no such thing as too many words when it comes to exposing kids to reading as well.
