Product reviews...
Heller's cocktail sausages are always my go to when it comes to cocktail sausages due to their pleasant taste and the fact that they actually taste like sausages and that they don't have that horrible gritty texture as some cocktail sausages do. At Miss 2's birthday party we were without a doubt always going to be serving up cocktail sausages as one of her party foods, however knowing that a child who is gluten free was to be coming I tried to fond as many yummy tasting gluten free products for them as I could so that they didn't feel they were missing out, luckily Heller's had this option.
On the day of the party I boiled a large pot of boiling water on the stove top and added my cocktail sausages to it and left them to simmer for 10minutes. This was the amount of cooking time, the sausages were heated through and the sausages red skin hadn't burst. I served the sausages in a large bowl with a variety of different sauces such as tomato, BBQ, sweet chilli and aioli, which all went well. The cocktail sausages were a sure hit amongst the children and adults and were one of the first foods to disappear from the table. The texture of the meat although gluten free was smooth, meaty and not gritty, and the red skin was nice and thin, all in all they were well seasoned and tasted great.
Definitely the only cocktail sausages you want to buy so, so yummy and addictive there's no way you can only stop at just one.
When my daughter was under 2 years old cocktail sausages were her favorite food, once she was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease at 23 months she couldn't eat them anymore, she wasnt allowed anything with gluten in it, including wheat, barley, rye and oats so these little red boys were gone out of the picture.
This year 2013 we just happened to be walking in countdown and saw them in a package made by hellers and had a closer look we couldn't believe it, we had to have a closer look and it said gluten free we were really excited. To be extra sure we checked the back for the ingredients and got more excited our daughter started getting excited cause she had seen these at friends birthdays and she couldn't have them. We brought a packet and took it home to test them out.
We cooked them in hot water before it came to the boil we removed and drained, got the sauce out and was ready to give these a test run, one bite and its everything I remember, that yummy taste of cocktail sausages, I couldn't taste anything different from the old ones with wheat, in fact these ones tasted better. they didn't leave a funny taste in my mouth after having more than 5 lets admit it, once you start you can't stop. We now buy them on special and then put them in glad bags and freeze in portions.
Im so happy hellers made gluten free ones now my daughter can feel included more in parties now than ever, we finally get to have our cocktail sausages back aswell. The bonus is you can get them with cheese or skinless too, which makes it a triple banger. So if your gluten free and been hanging out for cocktail sausages these will make your day, they did ours. Even if your not gluten free they are still yummy.
