The Chimpanzees of Happy Town product reviews

Popular children's book team Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees present another irresistible rhyming, fun-to-read story!

The chimpanzees of Drabsville are miserable. The wicked mayor won't allow them to have any fun! Playgrounds, trees, and colors other than gray are outlawed in their gloomy town. However, when a traveler named Chutney dares to plant a tree, Drabsville begins to blossom into a colorful land of dancing, playing, and laughing. There's only one name for such a place--Happytown!

I have always loved books by the team of Giles Andreae and Guy Parker Rees and this one is no exception. With the combination of the amazing illustrations that are never lacking in colour or detail and the fantastic rhyming stories they always seem to make a good book. This one is not my favourite but I think it has such a nice message.

The message in this book about the Mayor who controls the whole town and won't let them have any colour in their town is quite deep so younger children won't quite understand where it comes from but I think they would still enjoy the story. My son is only just starting to sit still long enough to read books like this as it is quite a long story in comparison to preschool books I would say this one is more aimed at children in the 4-6 bracket as it is quite meaty.

Chutney is such a nice character who goes to prison for planting a tree and making colour in Drabsville, in the end the Mayor gets put in prison and everyone in the town paints their house the colour they want and build an amazing colourful playground for the whole town to enjoy. It has nice messages abotu standing up for what you believe in and following your heart but it is deeper than that as it address the issue of politics.
