We watched this movie on the request of my daughter since the big hype of the twilight movies she has been very much into supernatural style movies especially ones with a love story weaved in. I hadn't heard of the movie before and didn't know it was based on a series of books of which there are four parts so wasn't really sure what to expect.

The movie was actually quite enjoyable the typical forbidden love scenario, where true love fights to overcome any hurdle even certain death. The story was good you wanted to find out what was going to happen whether Lena would turn bad, whether her and Ethan would find a way to be together so it definitely kept your attention. I just wished the movie had ended differently as it just ended abruptly feeling like the story was unfinished which now I know there are more books in the series makes sense that they may be leaving it open to a sequel.

The accents of the characters in the movie I found really quite annoying and although it felt modern it seemed like it was set in a different decade just by the way they dressed and their ideas. The whole town was very christian and there was a lot of praying and rituals so when Lena comes to town she isn't really accepted which quite annoyed me that there was this discrimination.

My husband was more interested in this movie than I was but I was happy to watch it as it didn't look half bad in the trailers that I saw. I checked to see if my mum wanted to watch it with us but having read the book, she didn't feel interested in watching the movie adaptation.

Ethan is a teenage boy who lives in a small town and is eager to leave. He ends up befriending the strange new girl in town, and as these movies tend to go, they fall in love despite everything pitted against them. When he meets her she has a couple of months before either the Light or the Dark will claim her and her powers for their own and so the race is on to find out a solution, nothing that you don't expect.

The special effects on this were really good and I particularly liked Lena's home, how the outside was a crumbling house but inside was a whole different deal. The magic that happened was great and everything flowed really well.

I did find the whole movie cliched in that there was nothing you couldn't see coming. The ending felt a bit cut off for me and adding on another minute with a slightly different ending would have left me feeling better about the movie.
