I really really enjoyed this movie, although I didn't rush out to see the sequel I must admit. In this movie Gracie an FBI agent must pose as a beauty pageant contestant in order to go on an undercover mission.
Gracie is the most unlikey beauty queen who is anything but feminine in her fashion sense, but she is transformed into a true beauty queen with plenty of comical moments as she learns how to walk in heels and how to wear a dress. I think the funniest moment for me was when she does her talent and dresses up and plays the bottles, or when she gives her self defence demonstration, it has some great laughable moments.
I will say in my opinion it is definitely a chick flick and didn't really appeal to my partner. In the end Gracie uncovers who is trying to sabotage the Pageant and blow up the crown and is crowned her self as Miss Congeniality. I think it showed a huge change in the character from the begining to the end of the movie.
Sandra Bullock plays Gracie Hart, an FBI agent who is sloppy and slovenly with her looks, paying more attention to her job that to herself. When the FBI suspect that a bomber is targeting the Miss USA Pageant they turn to Gracie to join in the pageant but first they need to 'fix her up' so that she is pageant worthy. It's a typical ugly duckling turned into swan storyline with a bit of action thanks to the FBI and bomber.
This has good comedy thanks mainly to the relationship between Gracie Hart and the man charged with doing her up, Victor Melling (Michael Caine). Their banter is great fun and makes the film worth watching. All the actors in this do a great job, and it pokes a bit of fun at beauty pageants, which isn't always a bad thing when it comes to their eating habits.
I really enjoyed this movie, and the sequel that followed it. Gracie Hart ends up proving that you can look gorgeous and still kick some serious butt. A great Sandra Bullock comedy movie.
