While at the supermarket one day looking for some convenient easy to prepare meal ideas that would be useful when I have assignments (or maybe reviews lol) to do I came across the hot bites toasty pies, on special for just .99c each, they seemed like something that could be thrown together in seconds with a salad and some mashed potatoes and just like that a full meal is created, or of course a great heat n eat for a snack.

With three different flavours to choose from, we selected a couple of each one (actually at that price we purchased a few of each one, as figured they would be great for hubbys lunches too), and headed off home. Dinner that night was going to be hot bites toasty pie, greek salad and some creamy mashed potatoes...simple, easy and yummy right? And the toasty pies even came complete with heart foundation tick, so that was even better.

Each of my three children selected a different flavour, so it meant in one meal time we would get to try out all of the selection. They can be heated in the oven, or microwaved. I'm not a fan of soggy anything, so I popped in microwave for 60 seconds (recommended is 90 seconds), then popped in to the oven while I dshed up the rest of the plate, then added these on last. They smelled really good and looked great too. I was already impressed.

The pastry is lovely, a really nice flavour too. But for three of us, that is where things stopped. The fillings were far from lovely. In fact two of us could not eat them at all, I actually thought mine was off Sad Icon Miss 6 loved her ham and cheese one, and also liked the meat lovers but even she was less than impressed with Hawaiian. The cheese they use is a rather unusual texture, it smells weird and it tastes weirder and this destroys the flavour of the entire toasty pie. Such a shame as these are such a wonderful idea, completely let down by the cheese. If they decide to review them, and change whatever they use for the cheese, I would be more than happy to try them again.

Lucky Miss 6 and hubby liked them enough to finish the extra ones we bought, so we did not have to throw them away or give them away.
