Someone is hunting the rare black rhino for its precious horns. Is evil agency SHADOW responsible?
Nothing is as it seems. Special agent EJ12 will need to look beneath the surface if she is to stop more animals being hurt.
Thats the easy part. As EJ12, Emma Jacks can do anything. So why does she find dealing with the new girl at school so hard?
Perhaps she doesn't after all.....

Emma's Mum has been lucky enough to win a trip to Africa... Except it's no coincidence, run by the local light shop, which is really the cover for the "shine" agency, Emma knew that there was something astir... her Mother a semi-retired agent for shine, (and also a vet, handy for this story) and Emma a current agent.. There was a mystery here, but what was it?
The true reason for their "holiday" was soon disclosed, the endangered black rhino is being hunted. Can agent EJ12 get to the bottom of this and save Africa's animals? The writer has a sense of humour that will hit a chord with young reader, upon being given a tool to help with her case; Emma is told "no it can't be used on younger brothers"!
Dotted with codes and clues this is an exciting and engaging read, and I really enjoyed the writing style, it is fast paced and makes you want to turn the next page!
This is the first time our family has read one of the EJ12 series but I think it's the new must read books in our house. This is definitely written for girls, but I love the way it doesn't fit the normal script for girl's stories, it promotes active thinking and problem solving. A great read, and highly recommended for 9 + years!
I really enjoyed this book. Having read some of the reviews for other books in the series it is definitely a series I will be encouraging my girls to read.
Secret Safari is about Emma Jacks latest mission in Africa. Her mother "wins" a trip to Africa and EJ12 of the agency "SHINE" has to decipher the secret messages and figure out her rival from SHADOW's mission. She then needs to prevent her from carrying it out.
This story line is just perfect for the young female reader and this story has a lot of factual information about animals in Africa and the illegal wild life poaching and trade that occurs. A really good way to get your young reader to learn about Africa and poaching etc. I liked that, aside from a bit of school yard nastiness which is an unfortunate reality these days in schools, the story line is more like a modern day Nancy Drew. Having secret codes etc certainly adds to the readability of this book.
Very simply written and done in a style that makes you want to follow the series. (Well it does me anyway!).
Definitely well worth checking out.
