Product reviews...
I LOVE HUMMUS!!! So needless to say I was very excited to be trying a new brand.
So, I prepared a platter of carrot sticks, celery, plain corn chips and french stick and yes I shared with the family :) This hummus is delicious, it spreads so easily and has a lovely texture. There is a slight hint of the cumin and the lemon amount is perfect.
I had to stop us half way through the tub as I wanted to try it in some sandwiches. Sliced ham, cheese, tomato and hummus! The combination was just right, nothing overpowered the hummus, no need for any dressing at all.
I'm sold, this is fantastic and affordable and will be a regular in my fridge (hiding at the very back behind the broccoli so no one will find it but me!!)
I opened this container and immediately the smell got to me - it was amazing - I could smell the cumin and I decided then and there it was going to be a great product. It didn't disappoint.
I initially used it on a bread roll with ham and tomato and it certainly complemented the flavours without overpowering. I thought the texture was lovely and perfect for spreading. I then tried it on a heated pita bread with a chicken kebab. I used plain chicken because I didn't want flavours getting in the way of what is a gorgeous hummus. It was lovely!
I also took the small amount left over into work and gave it to a colleague to try - she made a sandwich with cold lamb, tomato, the hummus and lettuce - everything worked well with it.
Would I buy it again - definitely! My only complaint is the container wasn't big enough and it went far too fast! I will be buying this again and recommending it.
I was lucky enough to be selected to try this hummus. I love hummus and have often made my own.
It was strange to see a layer of oil on the top. I wasn't sure what to do with it. Do I stir the oil, drain it off or just ignore it. I decided just to leave it. The hummus was a nice smooth texture. Although I could see the cumin it wasn't obvious when eating.
I used it for dipping carrot and cucumber in. I loved the taste of the hummus and it has all disappeared in only three days.
I also like that it is gluten and dairy free as I have friends and family with food allergies.
I haven't always been the greatest advocate for Hummus... some of the more affordable ones you can buy are such that I wouldn't even feed them to our pet rats... and the ones that never fail to impress me are priced so high you wonder what they are thinking... so I was quite relieved to find one that promised quality at a price within reason. But there had to be a taste test, after all...
So... test #1 - simple, on plain bread rolls. The result was delightful! A smooth, nutty taste with a wonderful hint of cumin giving it an eastern swing, accented by the slight zest of lemon sneaking up from underneath. By the time I had sated myself on this test (you simply CAN'T base an opinion on a single test... I had to repeat the experiment to prove consistency, after all ) there wasn't a heck of a lot left! For me, that took care of Test #2 as well - Does it still taste good after 3 or 4 tries. Confirmed.
The next day, after forcing myself to put the tub away before it was emptied in a single sitting, I tried it again, this time in various combinations of sandwich, using shaved ham and Colby cheddar throughout. Personally, I was really impressed at how well this hummus complemented the other 3 spreads on the trial, but it certainly went best, in my opinion, with the Saffron, Dill & Mustard Mayo - the two just seemed to work so well together. Even fussy Mr3 tried a bit and wanted a whole sandwich to himself. That really is a benchmark of high approval in this household.
Overall, I was very impressed. As my first encounter with Cannon Hill products, it was a very good first impression. As budget allows, I plan to be ordering more products from Cannon Hill, and hope we can get reviews samples of the other products in their range over time.
