What a catchy fantastic book! Out of Bed Fred is a great bedtime book to prepare the little ones for the chores and jobs they need to do in the morning such as brushing your hair and teeth and getting dressed!

The alliteration and rhyming makes this book enjoyable and very easy and fun to read. The story is set around a good goody two shoes sister and her brothers that want to get her in trouble as she is always ready on time every morning ... the mum always is nagging at the 7 (yep 7!) brothers to do their morning chores and routine and as the book goes on the sequence of mum calling to boys repeats. This is the favourite part for my son as he can remember the little rhyme and read along with me - something he loves and you can see that he thinks he is so clever! (he's 3)

The pictures are colourful and comical and Shirl is the epitome of the goody goody sister with her blonde curls and cheerful clean appearance. The book has good quality strong paper pages that seem to withstand little hands wanting to turn them. This is another excellent children's book from a home grown writer! Fully recommended!!

Be warned this book is a very easy to read book that may have miraculous effects on your child!! The morning after we first read Out of Bed, Fred! Miss Four skipped into my bed at 6.30am fully dressed, hair brushed, kindy bag packed, tooth brush in hand, cheerily asking when breakfast would be ready!!! Miss Three wasn't quite as enchanted but no mind!

Miss Four and I love this book. It is read every night and has provided a good basis for us to refer to jokingly to hurry things along in the morning.

We like the rhyming which is repetitive through the book to encourage your child to read aloud.
"Out of bed, Fred! In your clothes, Mose! Brush your hair Blair! Wash your face, Mace! Eat your food, Jude! Clean your Teeth, Keith! Time to go, Joe!"

The story focuses on Shirley who is always ready to go and the boys (her brothers) who are not but who, in the process of trying to make Shirley late, end up realising that it is actually better to be on time and get ready themselves. I loved this message and the positive message it sends children (and parents) that a bit of positive reinforcement is actually so much more effectual than the continued negative feedback loop that we often get stuck in.

This book will be one that I imagine we will be reading for years without tiring of it as the wording is so catchy. Loving this book so much now has us looking out for other titles by Lucy Davey.

Out of Bed, Fred! is a very welcome addition to our bookcase.
