Having studied Diane Arbus a couple of years back when I was doing a photography Diploma, I was very interested in checking this movie out. Although it was a very slow-paced, unusual movie, it was still somewhat intriguing. Just how much of this was based on actual fact?? It now has me curious enough that I will indeed have to go and do some very heavy research into the life of Diane Arbus to sort out the fiction from fact parts of this movie. But it certainly portrayed her interest in the strange and unusual, which had been the one thing that had stuck with me about her style of photography from the course I'd done.
Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr played their parts well, with both of them being subtle in roles that could have been far too easily been overdone- the "love story" side of "Fur" quiet and gentle, leaving Arbus' strange photographic interests to take center stage. Although this is not a movie I'd keep in the "favourites" section of my DVDs, it is definitely one that will occasionally get another viewing, just for its weird factor.
