NEW... complete rice risotto meals, ready to heat'n'eat.
New Zealand smoked salmon in a creamy risotto, with lemon and a hint of dill.
Product reviews...
Well after sampling the mushroom and Jamblaya products I wasn't keen on trying this one. Got hubby to eat it, which he didn't, he took one mouthful and gave it to the dog.
Wouldn't ever purchase these products, they are foul.
Mmmmmm Tasty. Should I write more?
I had been put off risottos in the past, but this one could tempt me back into eating them a little more regularly.
The smell of this dish warming in the microwave at lunchtime was a welcome break from the normal boring lunches. The smell was not overpoweringly fishy but pronounced smoked salmon, enough to tempt one to try the salmon with the first bite.
The salmon chunks were of good size (none of the small, barely discernible flakes) and the smell of the dill and lemon definite.
The rice was cooked to perfection - and cooking a risotto can be tricky to get it right.
This is one quick meal I will buy and eat again.
This meal was one I was especially looking forward to sampling, as was my wife, so I decided to spread the meal between two with the addition of some Kumera Hash Browns and some freshly cooked pasta. Well this meal was superb. The lemon and dill just added the right bit of extra flavour to what I'm sure would have been a tasty dish without the extra condiments.
A serving idea I had whilst happily and noisily munching away on my meal was to first cook the hash browns to a nice firm consistency and to then spread the cooked/heated risotto on top of them for a risotto on toast sort of effect. (Pity I had this idea afterwards, not before. Oh well there is always next time ) Of course this will not be to everyones tastebuds, but I've always been known for my liking of weird foods (and people).
I absolutely love salmon as a rule, so the idea of this one was like heaven to my taste buds... but unforunately this didn't make the favourites list. I loved the idea of the all-in-one meal, it certainly makes life easier - but I just didn't particularly enjoy the taste of this as much as I thought I would. Mostly I felt the hint of dill was more than a hint, and unlike the rest of the Kaweka range I felt this one could have used a little more meat. Didn't hate it, but possibly would have to alter it some to have it again.
Another Great Meal!!!
A work lunch for me, this was quick and easy to prepare - nuke, stir and eat! - it was tasty and it was filling.
With a bowl full of tasty looking - and smelling - food in front of me, I wondered if the salmon taste and smell would be too overpowering for myself and my poor workmates who had to share the staff room with me, but it wasn't on either count!
The salmon in the risotto was firm and in good sized chunks, however I will say I didn't get much of a smoked flavour from it or the dish as a whole. I don't think this was a bad thing though, subtle works for me when it comes to smoked flavours mixed with other things.
The risotto was a nice consistency and had just enough of all the right flavours to make it a dish that you didn't mind finishing...
The only complaint I would give with this is the slight chemical aftertaste... I didn't get any while eating it, but did slightly afterwards. This could have been the lemon though, as this was quite prominent as a flavour.
Well made Kaweka
