This was a film that I knew nothing about but it looked interesting enough. my main movie buddy is my mum so I showed her this when it arrived and she had actually read the book, which I didn't know existed. Hearing her she how much she had enjoyed the book had me looking forward to watching where'd you go Bernadette. In this film Bernadette is a woman who not only was a big deal in her field but is described as a pioneer in the world of architecture, all this changed 20 years prior to the events of the film when she stopped working. Our main character is now a woman who's life revolves around her daughter and keeping herself out of the world. Cate Blanchett is an actor that I have always enjoyed watching so I looked forward to seeing how she would portray a mother losing herself and then trying to find herself again.
The movie is narrated by Bernadette's daughter Bee, which I found an interesting way to have a story told considering the focus is on Bernadette and not Bee. I enjoyed watching the movie no there wasn't anything that had me solidly focused on it. One of my favourite parts of the film had Bernadette watching a documentary that had been made on her, I thought that this was a fun way to give us her history and showed just how influential she was before quitting the field. I expected to find a good portion of the film amusing but it didn't provide as many laughs as I expected it to. Emma Nelson did a superb job playing Bernadette's daughter and narrating the entirety of the film. While I did enjoy the film enough to finish watching the entirety of it and I enjoyed watching Cate Blanchett as always, this is not a film that I enjoyed enough to want to watch again and thus will be passing it on when I get the chance.
