Review #14965 - Dated: 12th of October, 2015 Author: Noisybabe007 |
I asked to be considered for this book to review for my eldest daughter ( 6.5 years ) - as she is starting to be interested in longer and more involved books . I thought that it would be a nice thing to do to read it together - a little bit each night . I can safely say , it was a great idea and both her and I enjoyed the book immensely , so much so that Miss 4 asked if she could sit in on the story telling ( yesssssss !!!!! )
The book itself is a softcover , and has 71 pages - making it a nice length to read . Each chapter ( there are 9 ) has around 8 pages - enough to challenge Miss 6.5 but not too much that Miss 4 got bored. Eve and the Fiery Phoenix is the 2nd book in the series , and Miss 6.5 has requested I find the 1st one so we can read it together too. The book website recommends these for age 7 +.
The two main characters in this series and each book are Eve and Oscar - who start their adventure this time in the summer , by going into a curio , or antiques / op shop type shop . Eve finds a phoenix figurine, and upon touching it - gets thrown into an adventure again . I do not want to give too much of the story away - so I wont, but in Book 2, they are transported to the jungle of Griffid, where tigers are the rulers and unless the phoenix sings, the sun will not Griffid will slowly freeze . Eve and Oscar need to fix this problem and fast .
This book has an subtle holistic and environmental theme - combined with the idea that working together can solve many problems . The book gets this message across very well though - and there are enough twists and turns , adventure , magic and action to intrigue and captivate both girls and boys .
I am really looking forward to the 3rd installment of this series that is due around about now ( October 2015 ) and also to finding (hopefully ) the 1st one at our library .
