Funnyman Rick Moranis stars as ditsy inventory Wayne Szalinski, who spends many days and nights trying to get his wacky miniaturization machine to work. No such luck -- until one day, he unknowingly shrinks his children down to 1/4 inch tall and tosses them outside in the trash. The thimble-size adventure begins, as the kids must make the trek across their backyard jungle, battling giant sprinklers, garden insects and curious canines along the way

I originally watched the movie due to the catchy name . As a kid I thought it would be great to have a great adventure and the special effects were well done, you could imagine the kids had really been shrunk and had to face the jungle better known as the back yard and I often thought the dad was an idiot for not realising the kids were in danger. As an adult I still think the special effects were well done considering how old the movie is, surprisingly how we see things differently as we age.

Recently we watched this as a family movie and the kids lost interest rather quickly and I was a bit disappointed but that didn't stop me from enjoying the movie. I had forgotten some of the story, I had remembered the main points to the story so it was like watching it for the first time. I was watching and thinking " so that is how that happened or why it happened ".

I would watch this again as it shows a lot of imagination and good clean fun. There is no bad language and no adult jokes and no senseless violence which is a change of what is offered regularly.

I remember watching this when I was a kid and having some great afternoons pretending that my dad had gone crazy and shrunk me and now I was stuck in our back yard, smaller than an ant and trying to get returned to normal. A father is trying to create a shrink ray but can't get it to work, then one day his neighbors son lands a baseball on it which in turn shrinks his two children and the neighbors two children, who then end up on the other side of the yard trying to head home. This is such a fantastic idea and I love how they took the idea and ran with it.

We watched this with the kids recently, as it was on TV and though it didn't hold their interest they were curious about it and kept asking why the father had shrunk his children down so that they were smaller than ants. There are some moments in it that I still find amusing today and this is just some nice and easy fun. The special effects, when the kids are tiny and in the back yard, can be obvious, especially some of the moments with the ant, bee and scorpion but there are a couple of moments where the special effects are surprisingly good.

This is a fun family film.
