Review #12875 - Dated: 24th of November, 2014 Author: shellcruise |
One thing I absolutely hate when watching a 'foreign film' is subtitles. Especially when it is writen so small and blends in to the background. I would not have a problem if they made it big enough so that you did not have to pause it every couple of seconds to read what they are saying. I don't get if they speak english for the whole of the movie why they have to revert to German for a couple of scenes.
This movie was incredibly slow but still very watchable. It has a fantastic ending as the Grim Reaper has a voice over. What a great way to finish the movie as it is said through his eyes and his voice. The movie is a great mark on friendship and you can always count on those that you love. It does have the depressing parts of war and death but it focuses heavily on love and partnership.
It is a tad predicable but has a couple of surprises thrown in. I liked how it was told from the German prospect and how they too where effected by the war. You don't usually consider the German people when you think of the Jews and Hitler. I like the niavity of the children when they found out Germany was going to war and how excited they were, and then, the realism of what war is actually about hits.
It wasn't as powerful a movie as I thought it would be. I did get bored a couple of times especially when Liesel is introduced to her new family. It spends a lot of time on scenes that are not necessarily required and scenes it probably should of spent more time on rushes past. I am glad I watched it, if only now I will think more of the other side when I watch something in the future.
