Weir is back and even weirder. But it is not just Weir who is weird, it is his whole family. Not even their pet bird is normal. How will he keep cool with a school trip to the zoo coming up AND Bella's birthday party?

It won't be easy, but it will be funny.

This is the first Weir Do book that we've read and the second book in the series. The books follow Weir and his weird and hilarious family - this volume includes a school trip to the zoo and a much anticipated birthday party.

This book is a peek into the life of Weir Do. It's light hearted, witty and easy to read with a few paragraphs on each page and lots of black and white illustrations through out. There was a bit of toilet humour which my son found hilarious but the rest of the humour was a little beyond him - my partner and I found ourselves laughing out loud on a few occasions.

It's a great book to have in our collection and completely different from what my son usually likes to read. It did a good job of holding his attention even during the slower/less funny parts so that's definitely a win. There's a slight romantic undertone (Weir has a crush on the girl who's birthday he's invited to) which I think is unnecessary and my son didn't understand it anyway but otherwise it's a really great read with lots of funny moments for both kids and adults to enjoy.

I'm quite gutted that I didn't pick up Weir Do the first book in this series when it came out last time. I saw it at a school book fair a couple of weeks ago and I nearly bought it there, but then I couldn't justify it in the groaning stack I had. Now I have read Weird Do 2, I am kicking myself some more.

This book is brilliant and funny. Even as a 35 *cough* year old woman, I had moments of rolling about laughing. The first thing that really draws you to the book is the cover. It has a hologram cover, so the pictures move as you move the cover from side to side. The best thing about it, is that the frog on the cover tries to catch Weir's eye. That had my daughter in hysterics.

The wordage in the book is quite light and we easily sat and read this over 30 minutes. It has something for everyone. For our family, the character's little brother really made us connect over our own little mischief toddler. Plus we have all had those awkward moments in class or around someone who is the 7th best looking. And who hasn't been in a store buying something pretty embarrassing (and usually not for yourself) only to walk into someone you know, right?!

The illustrations just make the story come alive. The words really are just there to string the pictures together and the whole print out of each page makes it seem a jumble of pictures and words. but I promise it does work well. I found it an easy read, even with the font changing up here and there. There are also some brilliant pieces of art in the book that got a LOT of laughs in our house. The mixed up animals and the folding page were brilliant.

I would say that this novel would be good for a reader who is not entirely new to reading, but who can read independently. It is in chapters so there is a natural pause here and there as well. $16.00 is good value in my opinion as this is one, I will not mind reading again and again.
