This book is based on Lara Zany who is Potts Courts Primary schools very own match maker. Her position is threatened when Emily Wong starts school and breaks all the match making rules. My 9 year old daughter found this book quite a challenge to read as it has a lot of 'coded' words, for example BOBF mean bus only best friend, MAK means make and keep. Luckily there is a glossary in the front of the book that explains what these all mean and she could go back and check. She really enjoyed the story line and found it quite fun. Recommended age 9-15. |

This story is a nice easy to read story, I would recommend it for girls aged 10-15. It is aimed at girls who are bullied, and has a theme of learning to be yourself to be accepted. Although any child who is bullied will tell you that being yourself will not stop you getting bullied, but it is a nice idea. Lara is the school friendship matchmaker and she is very bossy, she decides who can be friends with who. She thinks she is helping the other students, saving them from being bullied, and the students think so too, until Emily, the new girl in town, doesn't want Lara's services, or to listen to Lara's advice, Lara panics and cannot make sense of what follows. Emily doesn't get bullied, nor does she have any trouble making friends. Is everything Lara taught wrong??? I enjoyed this book, it is quite cute and fun. Would recommend =] |
