Set in Ancient China during the 3rd century, Dynasty Warriors 6 immerses gamers in a truly cinematic kung-fu action experience. Celebrated characters have been completely re-imagined with new weapons and fighting techniques motion-captured from some of today's leading stuntmen and women in Asia. With the game's new "Renbu" attack system and game controls, players can execute lightning-fast combos and the most dazzling fighting moves with ease.

Developed from the ground up exclusively for next-generation platforms, the game's proprietary engine delivers the most chaotic and challenging Tactical Action experience to date. Players can use the landscape to elude the thousands of soldiers swarming the battlefield. But as players move and attack, adaptable enemy A.I. devises offensive and defensive combat tactics, and can retaliate with packs of fierce hunting dogs and patrol boats. All of the explosive action comes to life in high definition, 60 frames per second (fps) graphics.

Based on the epic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Dynasty Warriors 6 depicts the massive battles ignited by the fall of the Han Dynasty when three rebellious states moved to overthrow the Emperor of China

6th installment in the series of 'mow through the army' games, although much more visually appealing than the previous games it lacks what made Dynasty Warriors great.
For an example, in Dynasty Warriors 5, you could pick up any charecter and feel like you were playing with a unique general, some of them had very similar horse attacks or moves but for the most part they were their own style.

DW6 does have its merits, the "fog of war" is all but eliminated making for much more immersive gameplay and some of the new features are definitly worthy of note such as the cloth effects, the ability to travel on water, and the new leveling system, however I feel that the models used ingame were a little too optimised, you can see the polygons making up the weapons and the textures are quite often blurry and low quality.

Some of the charecters were definitly improved, like Zhou Yu, Liu Xun, Sima Yi and Liu Bei. On the other hand some were made entirley useless, Sun Shang Xiang and Yue Ying are the most blatent cases. The fighting looks a lot more fluent and the "renbu" system is good in some ways (though arguably not as fun as the previous combo system). The charecters for the most part have lost their individual style and apart from the few main "muso mode" charecters they all seem very similar (also the great thing about previous games was you could play through every general's storyline, which is essentially the point of the game for me at least).

On the whole it seems like this is a concept that could have been great but failed to capture the feel of the Dynasty Warriors series, it is however a great stepping stone for the inevitable Dynasty Warriors 7 which will hopefully combine the best of 5 and 6 to make a fantastic addition to the series.
