My daughter squealed with delight and actually clapped when she saw this book in a pile on her bedroom floor the other night. "Read it, read it, read it" was chanted at me. Then there was much bouncing around. So, I picked it up and read it.

The first thing you notice about this book is the bright yellow cover. The animals on the cover was all glossy and stand out against the matt texture of the yellow. The font is cool and the illustrations of the animals are quite kitsch. They continue in that style throughout. They feel like they have stepped out of the 1970s. I just love that style, so neat.

The facts start immediately right from the title pages inside. The facts are done as splashes of text on each page. They seem to flow pretty well. Each fact kind of leads loosely into the next. There are also quizzical questions. So you might follow a tail to another page to find out who it is. Or be asked a question about an animal early on, and have a page to flip to for the answer.

My daughter loved the facts. But she is so full of animal facts that it was often difficult to read to her without her trying to one-up the book on who has the coolest fact. I did learn a few new things, like some owls live in burrows - that I did not know. But there were more things that I did know, than didn't. Still, a great little book for a child to learn about animals.

Did you know that a cat can be right pawed or left pawed? Nope? Well neither did I. How about the fact that the most expensive coffee in the world is made using coffee beans that an Asian Palm Civet has eaten and pooped out...

This is a lovely, well laid out and fun book with a whole bunch of facts about animals. Whilst I knew a good deal of the facts in this book, there was about a quarter that I didn't know, but then again I have read a lot of trivia books growing up. The illustrations in this book are fun and I really liked the majority of them.

I did find some of the pages to feel a bit too crowded at time, perhaps one less fact on the page would have given it a better feel and flow to the page. Not every page needed to have a little less bustle in it, but otherwise it's a great and fun book.

It's always good to find a fact book that has information in it that I don't know and it's an interesting book for all ages.

Product image for Bad Luck and TroubleYou DO NOT MESS with Jack Reacher

September 11th changed Reacher's drifter lifestyle in one practical way. As well as his folding toothbrush, he now carries photo ID. Yet he is still as close to untraceable as a human being in America can get. So when a member of his old Army unit finds a way to get a message to him, he knows it must be deadly serious: "I want you to put the old unit back together."
